Head Cootie Spray

It is back to school time and what does that mean?  Them little, pesky head cooties!!!!!

What do we do in our house?  We have an all natural cootie hair spray that we use every morning on our hair to help prevent and deter them.

Here is my recipe that I have used almost 4 years now:

Grab a 6 or 8 ounce spray bottle
Fill almost to the top with water
Add a splash of Witch hazel (helps mix oil into the water)

15 Drops of Melaleuca
10 Drops Lavender
10 Drops Rosemary
5 Drops Peppermint

Shake before each use

Now, not only can this be used on someones hair, it can be used on coats, backpacks, or lunch boxes.  You name it you can spray in on it without fear of an oily residue being left.  The Lavender also has some detangling properties so it works great on my girls hair in the mornings to help get the tangles out.

Here is a video explanation as well:

Spotlight on TerraShield Oil

TerraShield is my family’s favorite blend for the summer. We spend a lot of time outside and this is the magic that wards off any insects that want to join our summer festivities. This oil is safe for everyone in your family and can even help your garden flourish by giving it a protective barrier. TerraShield has recently been updated to include Tamanu oil which not only provided extra benefits for your use but is positively impacting families in Madagascar through dōTERRA’s Cō-Impact Sourcing. This blend can be diffused or applied topically using the TerraShield Spray to provide a defense against the annoyances of outdoor activities.

  • Diffuse TerraShield to protect you from insects during your summer barbeque
  • Apply to kid’s arms and legs to help them get the most out of their summer vacation
  • To focus on experiencing nature instead of avoiding it, apply TerraShield before a hike
  • Apply topically or place on aromatherapy jewelry while camping or on a fishing trip
  • Acts as an effective insect repellent
  • Helps ward off insects
  • Don’t let Mosquitos ruin your outdoor experience, use TerraShield

I actually ramp up my bug spray and mix a big spray bottle of it.  Besides TerraShield I will add lavendar, peppermint, lemongrass, and cedarwood.  Our bugs have been extra bad this summer but by using this spray I do not get any bites, nor do the kids.  I walked to the trash one day and got bites all over, but camped all weekend and used my spray and didn't get a single bite.  Here is my recipe I am using this year:

8 oz glass spray bottle
Filled with distilled water and about 2 tbsp of witch hazel
20 drops of terrashield
20 lemongrass
10 of lavender
10 cedarwood
5 peppermint
Shake and apply

DIY Lavender Bath Salt Soak (Sleepy bath soak)

So today I am getting together a basket of goodies and decide to make a bath salt for it.   I then remembered our new local store has fresh herbs.....  YAY!!!!!  Sent him a message I was in need of a little bit of lavender.

Today's mixture is a sleepy salt bath soak.

Epsom Salt
Baking Soda
20-30 Drops Lavender Essential oil
10-15 drops Rosemary Essential oil (this was a late addition so not pictured)
And then I added fresh dried lavender

I used a pint jar so I measured half a cup of baking soda then filled the rest with epsom salt.

Once measured I dumped it into a glass jar and added the oils and mixed.  Once done I added in approx. 1/4 cup of lavender and stirred.  Then I spooned it into my jar.  I will add a label and such as well.

Add approx. 1 cup to your tub and relax.
