Service Area 20: Fathers Day Fishing

Yesterday the Service Area girl scouts held their second annual fishing day at Camp Soar.  WE do it to celebrate Father's Day!!

The girls always have a blast and always catch alot of fish.  We have a potluck, but the Service Area supplies the hot dogs to roast over the fire.  We also enjoyed the paddle boats that Camp Soar has as well.

We plan to keep doing this as long as there is interest.  It was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time!!!

There is a Teddy Bear Tea Party for those ages 5 & 6.  
This will be an informational event for those interested in joining Daisy Scouts.  

It will be at The Zone in downtown Hillsboro from 1-3 pm
Bring your favorite teddy bear and join the tea party.  No RSVP required.

For the older girls on Sunday there is an event at Camp Soar

From 2-4 pm at Camp Soar come out and see the mini golf course that was done for a silver award by Troop 6415.  Play a round of mini golf for free and get a free patch as well. There will also be a craft and a snack provided.  


You do not have to be a registered scout for this event.

Service Are 20 Father/Daughter Fishing Day

11-4 At Camp Soar at the Pool House Pond

This is an event for the whole family!!  Your leader does not have to be present.

Bring your fishing pole and enjoy fishing and other events.  Hot dogs, buns, drinks, plates and utensils will be provided.  We ask that you bring a covered dish.

There's no place like twilight camp!!!!

This years twilight camp will be held in Hillsboro at the Camp Wechetoowin Camp.  The theme is based around the Wizard of Oz!!!

This is open to all girls in K-8th Grade and you do not have to be a registered scout to attend.

This will be every evening from July 18-22 from 4 until 730 pm.

Cost is $30 per child  This covers food and activities

There are lots of fun activities planned for this summer and the girls.  If you are not a Girl Scout that is fine you can still attend, if you would like information on joining just ask!!!

We are also looking for active leaders!!!!  If you have a passion for having fun with kids and helping them grow we need you!!!!!  You do not have to have a girl in scouts to be a leader either!!  If you would like to become a leader let us know!!  

Service Area 20 Girl Scout Camp Out

This past weekend was the spring cam put for our service area.  The girls had a blast!!!  The weather was perfect for camping overnight out in our tents!!

The older girls were in charge of getting us a fire going on Friday night.  They did a great job with the fire safety.  We had pizza over the fire and peach blossoms over the fire.  Both were super nummy

We had a hand wash station outside so they could learn how they could wash their hands if there was not a bathroom around.  

Mary came from the ambulance and did some basic first aid with the girls and they made little first aid kits on Saturday.  They learned a lot from Mary.  Thanks again!

Friday evening there was a couple of crafts and SWAP making and some games.  We made s'mores over the fire just before going to bed.

Saturday morning the girls had to "hunt" their food out in the woods.   This is called a jungle breakfast.  They had fun hinting their food.  

They made nature journals and went for a nature hike early in the morning as well.

More crafts.  They made pine cone decorations that they could hang outside.  Colton had returned by this time and had to be in on the action as well.

The younger girls made dream catchers and the older girls did wind chimes.  

Lunch was your typical hot dogs over the fire.  We had left over peaches so I made a big pot of peach blossoms again  :) 

The girls had a great time and I think the moms did too.  We did have a visitor that night playing in the trash but he was well mannered besides banging the trash can.  He didn't' make a mess just noise :)   I tried to catch him at the mischief but never could see him.  

The girls are already asking when we can camp out again.  If your troop is interested in using the building for a troop camp out let us know whe can get you on the books!!!!  

Troop #6374 May Events & Service Area 20

I am going to try and make a quick blog of events for our troop and service area so everyone knows what is upcoming.  

So for May we have our regular meeting on May 2nd from 6-7 at the Fireman's Club.

May 16th is a big meeting.  We will have our Daisy to Brownie Bridging Ceremony.  
  If you have a Daisy (first grade level) that you will have bridging to a Brownie Please let us know      by April 25th so we can explain what you will need for the ceremony.

May 30th there will be no scout meeting.  This is Memorial Day.

Service Area 20 Events

May 6th and 7th   this is the service area camp out

Arrival is from 4-430 on May 6th and depart 2pm on Saturday.  This is open to any registered girl scout.  We will be exploring the basics of camping and will be camping in tents.  This will be at the Hillsboro Scout Camp Wechetoowin next to the golf course.

Cost: $15.00 per girl and $8.00 per adult (Cost includes camp fee, Friday supper, snack, Saturday breakfast, lunch and snack for all; crafts, activities and patch for girls).

World Thinking Day 2016

This past weekend our Girl Scout Troop celebrated World Thinking Day.

What is World Thinking day??

It has been celebrated since 1926 and is a day of International friendship.  It is a day used to speak out on issues that affect girls and young women and a way to fundraiser for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.

With our troop we went around the world to learn about scouts and guides from other countries.

Our first stop was in Australia.  The girls learned about Australia and the Girl Guides there.  The made boomerang swaps and at the end of our journey they got to try the famous snack of fairy bread.

After Australia the girls went to Ireland.  They learned about Ireland and the blarney stone.  They also learned about the Girl Guides in Ireland.  The girls made blarney stones and had green punch.

Next, the girls went to Greece.  In Greece they learned how the levels are a little different from the levels of scouts in the US.  They learned a little Greece history and made Olympic torches.  Once back home they sampled some Greece Butter cookies.

The last international stop on our flight was in Japan.  In Japan they learned about the levels of the scouts and about their pledge and how it was similar to our own.  The colored and made Kokeshi paper dolls and paper fans.  Once home they sampled "sushi"

The girls ended their round trip flight back home in the USA and looked at the scouts of the US.  WE also had a photo booth and snacks once home.

The girls had a great day even though this even had a low turn out and learned lots of things. We are looking forward to the next Service Area 20 Event and are in hopes of a great time once again !! We would like to thank The Zone for the donation of the building!!  And for the moms who helped out on this event and donations they gave!!!
